The End Of Female Circumcision???
Yes, female circumcision can be an awkward subject to discuss, but even though it is a sensitive subject that is easy to avoid we have to realize that it is a serious problem which many Muslim woman face. Background Info:
- Female Circumcision is widespread in parts of North Africa, South and South-East Asia, and the Middle East.
- Female circumcision typically involves surgically removing the clitoris of a young girl.
- Parents who support the practice argue that it helps prevent promiscuous behaviour in their daughters.
- Female circumcision often robs women of sensitivity in their sexual organs.
- Infertility, infections, and diseases such as HIV are often the results of dangerous and unhygienic procedures.
I have known about this issue for a long time now, and this is the first article that I have come across that calls for an actual solution to this problem. I really hope that the poeple and the Islamic Governments that are still practicing this humiliating procedure will stop and give freedom back to woman.

This is disgusting and is a prime example of ignorance in the world. These people aren't educated and are uninformed. Whoever said ignorance is bliss was completely off target....in most cases.
Just because a few people are ignorant or too embarrassed to use the correct terms is no excuse to perpetuate the error.
Female circumcision is the excision or slitting of the clitoral hood only. It is a form of genital mutilation, but it actually has legitimate medical application in very rare cases. To confuse it with other forms of mutilation, such as clitoridectomy (removal of the clitoris) or infibulation (sewing of the labia) does a dis-service to the victims of those horrors, to the victims of male circumcision (which removes a greater percentage of available nerve endings than female circ), and also to the unusual women who choose clitoral circumcision for cosmetic reasons.
Not because of religious beliefs. In fact, this is condemned by most Muslims. It is because of ignorance.
In Islam the primary reason for male circumcision is cleanliness.
*cough* ignorance *cough*
Yes, Muslims do condemn this act; meaning it is highly disapproved of in Islam.
Where in any of the above posts does it state that the reason for doing this is to be clean for future mates?????
Can you please tell us where you found that this was the first case of FGM in the U.S? I just did a quick search and found many cases of this prior to the time period you suggested.
