$100 gas rebate????

"Our plan would give taxpayers a hundred dollar gas tax holiday rebate check to help ease the pain that they're feeling at the pump," I am not sure that this gas rebate is a good thing, because on the radio this morning they were talking about how essentially it is just returning our money back to us, wouldn’t it just be more beneficial for us to lower prices. I am not sure, say what you think, of this. I do also believe that it may be difficult to decide who gats one and who doesn’t, we will see if it even get through the senate.

This will be an interesting story to follow as it continues to unfold. I do think a $100 rebate would be nice but there are some loops in it that would be first have to be solved. One of those being, like was pointed out earlier, who would exactly get one of these? How can the government determine how much people spend on gas and who actually uses fuel or owns a car. I think a more clear solution is to lower gas prices, however the only problem with this is that the amount of time it takes to see an actual savings will be a while if the price is not dramatically lowered. I'm curious as to where this extra money in gas is going. Is this high amount contributing mostly too paying the price to buy oil or is profit from the gas providing companies themselves. If possible, one thing that might be a good idea is a national gas price cap. If the Bush adminstration could implement this I think it would be helpful to the American people and also to the adminstration in a time when President Bush's ratings are low. A national cap would be the government setting a minimum and maximum price that gas stations can sell fuel at based upon the price of oil and the amount available. This number would be available for all to know and would change daily based upon the price and availabilty of oil. Perhaps there is a standard like this in place now, but if the government can enforce it better it would benefit us (the consumers) much better.
