World's Richest Countries
Today while taking notes, we were discussing the world’s richest countries and some people were not for sure if the United States was in fact the richest. I found this website that list the top 50 richest countries in the world. The United States is number one on this list. I was surprised to see that Australia was richer than Japan. I really didn’t think that Australia would be so high on the list. Here is a link to the website with the top 50 countries:http://www.cylist.com/List/400300719/

Nice link, but I have a couple of questions. I couldn't find any source reference for the list; where did the author get the data? What is the criteria for defining the wealth? Is it GDP, GNI, per capita or total? Check out some other sources, nationmaster.com or UN statistics for example, and see how they compare.
Nationmaster lists for GDP http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/eco_gdp and GDP Purchasing Power Parity http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/eco_gdp_ppp (source World Bank) The US is number one on both lists but the next several countries change a bit for each list.
Then we have this list from Nationmaster showing Nominal GDP(per capita)
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/eco_gdp_percap
and Luxembourg is number one and the US is number 7.
The danger in these kinds of lists is that each is right for a specific piece of information and we need to be aware of exactly what each list is telling us.
