Mapping of Indian National Highways

The mapping of India's national highways, a major project for the Central Road Research Institute, is slated to finish in 2009. 50,000 of the 65,000 kilometers of national highways are being plotted. This is an important development; better maps are the first step towards better transportation systems, which are a key point in the country's economy. Using some of the most sophisticated new technology, they are also looking at the condition of the roads, which will allow the government to know where repairs are most needed. Efficient, reliable transport of goods saves money and encourages business, hopefully promoting a healthy flow of capital in the world's second-most-populous country.
