Saddam Hussein's Trial

In Baghdad, Iraq the Iraqi government has released the judge (Abdullah al-Amiri) who was supposed to be hearing over the trail of Saddam Hussein. Iraqi officials have said that since the judges' statement last week about Saddam Hussein as not being a dictator. Due to his comment he was released from his duties of being the chief judge in the trial.

A Iraqi spokesperson told Reuters that the government has decided to find a new judge to hear the trial. An Iraqi cabinet member to the Prime Minister has declared that they have found a new judge, but that they will not release who he is yet. The new judge will be listening to the trial of Saddam Hussein, his cousin, and five others for crimes against humanity during the 1988 Anfal campaign against the Kurds. Saddam and al-Majeed will also be on trial for a more serious crime of genocide, which, if found guilty could result in death by hanging.

I think the former judge Abdullah al-Amiri just said that he did not believe Saddam Hussein was a dictator in order for his own protection. I know I would not want to be the person who convicts and sentences the once President of Iraq. Even though many of the Iraqi citizens are happy he is in jail, I am sure their are some who think he is innocent and a good leader. The ones who think of him as great are the ones that we are at war with, and if I were the judge I wouldn't feel safe in the Iraq knowing that someone could kill me at any time for "killing" there leader.
